Nearly there....

As the clock ticks down to the end of the transfer window today, our top of the table side is still intact. What's more, we are now being linked with a left winger and another striker in Luke Holden and Leon McKenzie respectively.

You won't have heard of Luke Holden as he plays for Rhyl but would appear to have spent a week on loan at the Valley recently and may have shone in the 6-2 humbling of Crystal Palace reserves that was played behind closed doors. Coventry were also in for for him but with a fee of £10,000 being mentioned, it hardly looks like we've outbid them. Perhaps he thinks his chances of first team football will be enhanced at a League One club? Luke (24) was a product of Liverpool youth system but was moved out to Tranmere briefly before a season for Total Network Solutions and then Rhyl.

Coventry are also the link with McKenzie (31) as he is one of theirs. He was signed for £600,000 (rising to £1m) three years ago from Norwich but started out at Palace and has also done time at Fulham and Peterborough. He is the son of boxer Clinton McKenzie and nephew of Duke McKenzie. Hardly one for the future, but he has experience and has scored 100 league goals in his career so looks like a reasonable replacement for Deon Burton should he get injured. At five-foot-ten my guess is we are unlikely to see him figuring in a two-man attack too often this season.

No rumours yet of the desperately needed central defensive cover but we have over 15 hours yet to go....
